“Getting Ready” Series, Part 8 – “Getting Ready To Continue”

March 22, 2026 By Alesha Williams

This sermon recap reflects the message shared on March 22, 2026.

In this concluding installment of the Getting Ready series, Pastor Williams emphasized that a continued walk with God requires intentional remembrance, decisive commitment, and ongoing obedience. Drawing from Joshua 24:15–18 , a call is presented to choose whom to serve and to remain steadfast in that decision.

Scripture Focus: Joshua 24:15–18

In this passage, a choice is set before the people: to serve the Lord or to follow other gods. Joshua’s declaration, “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” establishes a standard of leadership and personal conviction. God’s faithfulness in the past serves as the foundation for commitment in the present and future.

Key Message Points and Takeaways:

1. Remember What God Has Done: Remembrance strengthens faith and reinforces commitment. The people recalled how God had delivered them from Egypt, performed great signs, and preserved them throughout their journey. It is through remembering that confidence in God’s continued faithfulness is built.

2. Resolve to Making Your Choice: Serving God requires a deliberate and personal decision. The choice to follow Him cannot be inherited or assumed, it must be made intentionally. There is a clear distinction between passive association and active commitment.

3. Reaffirm Your Commitment: Commitment must be renewed and reaffirmed over time. The people declared their intention to serve the Lord, acknowledging His works and His faithfulness. It is through reaffirmation that spiritual alignment is maintained.

4. Realizing What’s Next: Choosing God is not the end, but the beginning of continued responsibility and obedience. A forward-looking perspective is encouraged, recognizing that ongoing faithfulness is required beyond the initial decision.

Final Reflection

This message serves as a reminder that:

  • God’s past faithfulness should inform present decisions
  • Commitment to God must be intentional and ongoing
  • Spiritual consistency requires both remembrance and resolve

Journaling Questions

  1. What specific ways has God’s faithfulness been demonstrated in your life, and how can those moments be remembered intentionally?
  2. What decision needs to be made or reaffirmed regarding your commitment to God?
  3. How can consistency in your walk with God be maintained moving forward?

“Getting Ready” Series, Part 5 – “Getting Ready To Renew”

February 22, 2026 By Alesha Williams

This sermon recap reflects the message shared on February 22, 2026.

In Part 5 of the Getting Ready sermon series, Pastor Williams walked us through a pivotal moment in Joshua 5, where renewal was required before advancement could occur. Drawing from Joshua 5:8–9 , it was emphasized that before God leads His people forward, He calls them to spiritual renewal and restoration.

Scripture Focus: Joshua 5:8–9

After the new generation of Israel had been circumcised, time was given for healing and recovery. It was in this moment that the Lord declared that the shame of Egypt had been rolled away, and the place was named Gilgal.

Through this passage, it was revealed that renewal often follows obedience, even when that obedience requires discomfort or sacrifice.

The Danger of Coasting & Three Critical Events

It was warned that spiritual complacency can become a danger when past victories are relied upon without continued obedience. Renewal was presented as necessary to prevent stagnation in the journey with God. It was highlighted that three significant events marked this season of renewal:

  1. The circumcision of a new generation

  2. The celebration of Passover

  3. Joshua’s encounter with the Commander of the Lord’s army

Each event served as a reminder that renewal involves both reflection and realignment with God’s presence and purpose.

Key Message Focus Points:

1. The Pain of Cutting Away

It was demonstrated that renewal requires the removal of what no longer aligns with God’s will. Though the process may be painful, it is necessary for spiritual growth and readiness.

2. The Power of Remembering

It was emphasized that remembering what God has done strengthens faith for what lies ahead. The celebration of Passover served as a reminder of God’s faithfulness and deliverance.

3. The Posture of Surrender

It was revealed that true renewal requires a posture of surrender. Joshua’s encounter with the Commander of the Lord’s army illustrated that God’s authority must be acknowledged before moving forward.

4. The Promise After Preparation

It was affirmed that God’s promises follow preparation. Once the people were renewed, they were positioned to step into what God had already prepared for them.

5. Preparation for Action

It was made clear that renewal is not the destination—it is preparation for what comes next. After renewal, movement was expected.

Final Reflection

This message served as a reminder that:

  • Renewal often requires discomfort before breakthrough

  • Spiritual disciplines are necessary to prevent complacency

  • God removes what hinders in order to restore what strengthens

It was encouraged that if areas of life feel stagnant, renewal may be required before advancement can take place.

Journaling Questions

  1. What areas in your life may need to be cut away in order for renewal to take place?

  2. How can intentional remembrance of God’s faithfulness strengthen your current walk?

  3. What does a posture of surrender look like for you in this season?

Standing Firm Series, Part 1: “The God of All Comfort”

October 27, 2025 By Alesha Williams

Sunday, October 26, 2025

Sermon Recap

Life isn’t always calm seas and sunny skies. Sometimes, the winds whip, the waves rise, and the storm feels endless. Yet even then, we have a God who doesn’t just watch from a distance—He comes alongside us.

That’s exactly what “comfort” means in the Greek word paraklesis—to come alongside.

In Part 1 of Pastor Williams’ new series, “Standing Firm: Finding Strength and Hope in Life’s Storms,” we’re reminded that God is not only present in our pain; He is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-7).

1. The Reality of Storms

Storms are part of life. They don’t mean God has left us—they mean we have an opportunity to experience His strength. Faith isn’t the absence of trouble; it’s confidence in His presence through it.

2. The Revealing Character of God

Our hardships often uncover something remarkable: God’s heart as Comforter. He doesn’t lecture us; He lifts us. Every time He comforts us, He’s also preparing us to comfort someone else.

 3. Real Confidence in the Storm (Psalm 46:1-7)

David understood storms too. His confidence came from knowing who God is:

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”

Even when the earth gives way, we can stand firm because the God who steadies creation steadies us.

4. Renewed Strength in Weakness (Isaiah 40:31; 41:10)

When our strength runs out, His begins.

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength… they will soar on wings like eagles.”

God promises, “Do not fear, for I am with you… I will strengthen you.” His comfort doesn’t just soothe—it revives.

5. Our Response — Receiving and Resting

How do we access this divine comfort?

  1. Be honest about our need for it.

  2. Turn toward God, not away from Him.

  3. Receive His comfort through His Word, His people, and His presence.

When we rest in His care, peace replaces panic.

6. Resting in God’s Comfort

The same God who comforts us in our pain uses our stories to comfort others. Our storms become someone else’s shelter when we share what He’s done.

Takeaway: Standing firm doesn’t mean standing alone. It means standing with the God who stands beside you—comforting, strengthening, and renewing you every step of the way.

✍🏽 Journal Questions

  1. What storm in your life might God be using to reveal more of His character?

  2. When have you most clearly experienced God’s comfort, and how did it change you?

  3. Who in your life could benefit from the comfort you’ve already received?

WHEN GOD’S PEOPLE QUIT CARING

October 29, 2021 By Reverend Anthony Williams

Matthew 24:9-13 (NIV): Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10 At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11 and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12 Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold , 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.  (Underline and bold added for emphasis)

In Matthew 24:12, Jesus said that in the last days the love of many will grow cold. Our  fellowship with God  is validated or invalidated by our love for others.  Many people come to church looking to feel God in their bones, feel Him in their feet, and feel Him all over, but that feeling is not the true indicator that God looks at to measure how full of Him we are. His indicator is our love for one another. Our love for other Christian brothers and sisters is proof positive or proof negative of our love or lack thereof for God. Coldness affects us in many different ways, but it is heartbreaking when a Christian’s love grows cold!  As Christians, we need our hearts reset, restored, and revived. In this post, I want to focus on just a few things that happens when God’s people quit caring and their love grows cold.

First, people experience Spiritual Deafness. While hunting many years ago I was so cold, and I didn’t wear earmuffs because I needed to listen for the deer. At one point, I tried to put my hands over my ears to help them thaw, but my hands were as cold as my ears. I see a lot of people, even in the church, who do this all the time. When they are growing cold in the Spirit, they don’t want to hear what anyone who is trying to turn them back to God has to say. People who are cold in their heart are deaf to the voice of the Lord and refuse to hear the word of the Lord. A fact of life is this: You will always hear that to which you are attuned!

When a person’s love grows cold, the person will be unable to sniff out the will of God. I call this Spiritual Anosmia (pronounced an-OHZ-me-uh). Dictionary.com defines anosmia as the “absence or loss of the sense of smell.”  Our bodies have many parts, and God designed each part for a special function. Among the purposes of our nose, the main purpose is for it to smell things. I don’t know about you, but when my nose is cold, I can’t smell anything! When a person is cold spiritually, not only are their ears frozen to hearing, but their nose is shut to sniffing out the will of God! Ironically, when people are growing cold in the Lord, while they can’t sense the moving and wooing of the Holy Spirit, they can sniff out anything that smells rotten in the congregation!

When my feet get cold, I’m cold all over. I often see Christians who get cold feet. Every time God puts an opportunity in front of them to tell someone about Jesus or do a work for Him, they get cold feet and can’t move. Have your hands ever been so cold that you can hardly move your fingers? I see people like that in church all the time. They show every sign of being frozen. They can’t lift their hands to praise the Lord. They can’t clap. They sometimes can’t even shake hands with other people, all because they are just cold in the Spirit. They get spiritually frostbitten and God has to trim away the dead part of their heart and get them warmed up so He can use them again. If this is not corrected, it will lead to Spiritual Stagnation.

I have heard of people who died by freezing to death. A few of them kept journals describing their experiences. Some wrote that they were so cold that they were ready to give up and go to sleep. To avoid freezing to death, experts say that in freezing conditions you should stay awake and keep moving. People who grow cold in the Spirit are in jeopardy of being lulled to sleep by the devil. This is Spiritual Sleepiness. They become so cold that they are oblivious to their spiritual condition and unless God comes to their rescue, they will sit there and freeze to death in their sins. We need to guard against becoming cold in the Spirit. Don’t let the devil cause you to freeze to death spiritually in this life, only to burn forever when this life is over. Stay on fire for God. Only when you stay close to God can you feel the warmth of his love and the power of the fire of the Holy Spirit.

LIVE WITH GODLY EXPECTATION

What is the antidote to coldness? Philippians 3:20-21 says, “but our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. He will transform the body of our humble condition into the likeness of His glorious body, by the power that enables Him to subject everything to Himself.”

To cure coldness, a person must live with Godly expectation. Living with a Godly expectation of your future should encourage you to live with others in peace and harmony. All born-again Christians are headed to the same place. Therefore, we should enjoy the journey together. Oftentimes we encounter discouraging circumstances as we travel this road of life. We need an eternal hope to keep us going when we meet with discouraging times, and the good news is that we have one! To have a Godly expectation we should:

  1. Recognize this world is not our home! We are just passing through this world on our way to our eternal home. We are just strangers and pilgrims in this world.

  2. Remember the Lord Jesus Christ is Coming Back For Us!

  3. Realize that when Jesus returns, we will be eternally transformed!

Are you feeling cold? Not in the flesh, but in your spirit? If so, then it’s time to let God bring life back into you right now! If you want more information about how God can remove the coldness,  please contact us through our Virtual Connection Card!
